    • BD Live: Nando's says Mugabe advert fake... HARARE, ZIMBABWE: An advert for fast-food chain Nando's using the now instantly recognisable image of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe falling is a fake, the company said on Thursday.

      The fall prompted a number of postings showing the Zimbabwean president surfing, fleeing riot police and riding a horse, to name but three.

      The chain, reports BD Live issued a statement: "Nando's Zimbabwe would like to assure the people of Zimbabwe that this advertisement was neither created nor sanctioned by Nando's," the chain said in an advert published in Zimbabwe's state-run government mouthpiece, the Herald newspaper.

      Vast crowds singing and dancing peacefully filled the streets of Bujumbura a day after Bob Rugurika, director of the popular independent African Public Radio (RPA), was released from prison on bail, reports Times Live, which quotes an AFP reporter as saying the demonstration in the capital was one of the largest in recent years.
