    Telecel appoints new Chief Executive

Telecel Zimbabwe has appointed Angeline Vere as its new chief executive, she becomes Telecel Zimbabwe's fourth CEO in five years...
    Telecel appoints new Chief Executive

The last CEO was Francis Mawindi, who had replaced John Swain, while Swain had replaced Aimable Mpore.

Telecel chairman Dr James Makamba made the announcement in a letter today: "The Telecel Zimbabwe board of directors is happy to announce the appointment of Angeline Vere as the chief executive officer of Telecel Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd with effect from June 10, 2015.

"The appointment of Angeline Vere is in line with the company's equal employment opportunity and empowerment policies."

The new CEO will have her hands full with dealing with the company's licence situation which almost saw it being closed, had it not been for a High Court ruling in its favour.

The company also needs to restore subscriber confidence amid stiff competition from Econet Wireless and NetOne.

Prior to the latest appointment Vere was the general manager of Telecel, having joined the company in July 2004 as legal manager.

In 2010 she was promoted to the position of company secretary and legal director. Vere is a holder of a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree (LLB), a Masters in Laws (LLM) degree with specialisation in commercial law and a diploma in Finance and accounting.

Telecel's new CEO has more than 17 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.

Prior to joining Telecel, Vere worked at the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, the Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (now TelOne) and the Attorney General's Office, among other Zimbabwean companies.

Telecel Zimbabwe is 60 percent owned by VimpelComm while a consortium of Zimbabwean business people under the Empowerment Corporation vehicle control about 40 percent of the company.
