US threatens fresh round of sanctions
The political impasse between ZANU-PF and the two Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formations could trigger stiffer action against Harare as it emerged this week that the United States is mulling a new round of sanctions to ratchet pressure on President Robert Mugabe to compromise on the issue.
President Mugabe of ZANU-PF and the two MDC leaders — Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara — last week referred the contentious deadlock on the distribution of ministries to negotiators in the dialogue after failing to agree on the issue.
