Zimbabweans urged to buy basics in SA
Zimbabweans have been advised to form groups and send members to South Africa to buy basic commodities there, the state-controlled Herald newspaper reported on Wednesday.
This should be done to counter exorbitant pricing by retailers in Zimbabwe, the country's Consumer Council (CCZ) told the newspaper.
CCZ executive director Rosemary Siyachitema said people could buy more and save by going to South Africa, where the products were cheaper.
She said that by forming groups and sending one member, people would reduce travelling costs.
Most retail shops were selling goods in foreign currency and refused to accept the Zimbabwe dollar.
"Although the government issued licences to selected shops to sell in foreign currency, the rest are doing it without the licences.
"Small traders, including vegetable vendors, have also joined the bandwagon, making life difficult for the ordinary person who does not have access to foreign currency."
