Zim: Land Rover brand alive despite UK firm pull-out

A local motor vehicle firm claims it has saved the Land Rover brand in Zimbabwe from collapse, despite being ditched by the British firm over the country's political crisis.

In remarks sparked by increasing agitation over the poor service Land Rover vehicle owners have been receiving from Quest Motor Corporation, the company said it had been abandoned by Land Rover UK, which had stopped all forms of support to the company since 2004.

The company said it had single-handedly kept customer vehicles on the road, providing them with backup service “with no help from Land Rover”.

“If it were not for our efforts in an extraordinary difficult economic climate, their brand would have been completely debased,” said Quest in a statement, indicating that it had propped up the Land Rover goodwill for the past half decade.

“Our company has suffered severe damage to (its) reputation as the general public feeling is that Quest is incapable of servicing Land Rovers or even getting a price for someone looking to purchase a Land Rover. Our lack of ability to properly service this market is a direct result of Land Rover's breach of our franchise agreement,” said Quest.
