Zimbabwe gets green light for diamond exports

The international body that regulates the global trade of diamonds decided on Thursday (15 July 2010) to allow Zimbabwe to resume limited sales from its controversial Marange fields.

The Kimberley Process had withdrawn the country's license in November after documenting forced labour and other human rights abuses by security forces that control the fields. Zimbabwe is now allowed to make two supervised sales from its stockpiles of diamonds by September, when the body will send a mission to review the conditions in the country.
