Wine export concessions to be pooled into marketing fund
Major players in the South African wine industry have agreed to pool the value of the duty-free concession on exports to Europe into a fund to be used for a five-year marketing plan to benefit the industry. Government signed a deal with the EU in January to allow the export of 42-million litres of bottled wine to Europe free of customs duty. The marketing fund is potentially worth R38-million.
