Our client, based in George, Western Cape, is looking for a financial manager to oversee all financial aspects of the business, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, financial reporting, fundraising, and regulatory compliance. This role requires a hands-on, strategic thinker who thrives in a dynamic startup environment, balancing both high-level financial strategy and day-to-day financial operations. As a small company with ambitious growth plans, the financial manager role is expected to expand over time. Initially, the financial manager will work with a part-time, remote bookkeeper, who will report to them. Beyond financial oversight, the financial manager will play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial future, ensuring strong financial health, and supporting scalable growth and expansion strategies. They will also ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements while maintaining efficient and accurate daily financial management. Key responsibilities- Develop, implement, maintain, and improve policies, controls, and processes that align with best practice and goals.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets.
- Support the CEO in securing funding and maintaining positive investor relationships.
- Oversee and actively participate in daily accounting tasks, including managing debtors, creditors, inventory, assets, project expenses, reconciliations, and payments.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions while maintaining financial controls.
- Manage cash flow to ensure financial stability.
- Work closely with engineering, operations, and business development teams to align financial plans with company objectives.
- Track the use of investor funding and report to shareholders and funders.
- Manage financial reporting, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow projections.
- Handle procurement and capital expenditure planning to optimise costs.
- Assist in pricing strategies and product profitability analysis.
- Analyse production and operational costs, implementing cost-control measures and efficiency improvements.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and financial reporting standards.
- Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs).
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in accounting. A postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
- Completion of articles is advantageous, but qualification as a CA is not mandatory.
- Strong understanding of IFRS and tax regulations.
- Expertise in financial modelling, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Proficiency in accounting software. ERP experience is advantageous.
- Business acumen, strong analytical skills, and strategic thinking.
