The music positioning of the Kaya FM Soul & Jazz Cruise is what sets it apart from what has become a wildly popular fad in South Africa. This year the Kaya FM Soul & Jazz cruise pays tribute and celebrates the 20 Years of Democracy we are celebrating as a country. The artists on board are the successful kwaito group, Trompies, who are celebrating 20 years of kwaito and 20 years as a band. To fulfil the Soul & Jazz of the cruise is the talented Frank McComb. McComb, who is often compared to Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder, will be returning for his fourth trip to South Africa and says, "I'm really looking forward to meeting as many people as I possibly can on the Kaya FM cruise." The popular genre of house music will be represented by international house legends, Monique Bingham and Ralf Gum.
Due to unforeseen circumstances the popular Bongo Maffin will not be cruising with Kaya FM for the 2014 Soul & Jazz Cruise. Bongo Maffin we know from the early 90's when the kwaito wave took South Africa by storm. "Bongo Maffin would have loved to sail with Kaya FM but unforeseen circumstances from the band which is beyond our control, they will not be able to make the cruise, and would like to send festive warm wishes to all their fans who have booked the cruise to hear one of South Africa's most loved bands perform," in a statement to Kaya FM from Bongo Maffin's management team, Kalawa Jazmee.
Kaya FM's Greg Maloka also said, "We are disappointed that Bongo Maffin will not be cruising with us; the show must go on, and we have lined up a special jazz artist and two other entertaining acts who we have been saving to reveal closer to the time, we know will certainly make for a pleasant surprise for all the 2,100 Kaya FM already booked listeners."
