After completing his Masters in business administration, Nandkishor Buty started his advertising career with Lintas India Limited in 1993. Spending his early years on the Unilever Oral Care business, he was part of the team that launched Unilever's highly successful Pepsodent franchise in the Indian oral care market.
Having worked on the Unilever business for five years, Nandu moved on to join the fast emerging entertainment industry in India. He was marketing manager with MTV India for a year and his efforts in marketing were recognised when MTV won the 'Youth Marketer of the Year' award in the 1998 A&M advertising awards.
The challenge of working in Africa brought Nandu to Kenya, where he joined Scangroup, a listed company on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. At Scangroup, Nandu successfully managed the group's Tanzania operations as group MD, managing two competing agencies - Lowe Scanad Tanzania and FCB Tanzania.
While in Tanzania he was responsible for launching two global telecom brands (Vodacom and Tigo) in the market. Over a period of time, Nandu led the group's telecom cell and was responsible for winning the 'Warid' business for the group's Uganda operations.
Having spent seven years in Tanzania, Nandu returned to Kenya to take up a position at Scangroup HQ as regional director, where he was tasked to expand the group's business in emerging African markets through acquisitions and affiliations. As part of this role, Nandu also assisted the central team on launching WPP brands such as Ogilvy Africa, Hill and Knowlton and Squad Digital in East Africa.
2010 saw Scangroup's acquisition of Ogilvy Africa and Nandu was designated to lead the Ogilvy Africa business as executive director. As head of the business and with relevant experience on telecom, Nandu played a pivotal role in the much successful Airtel Africa pitch. After winning the pitch across multiple disciplines, Nandu was instrumental in the setup of 'Team Airtel', which today manages the 360 Airtel business across 16 markets in Africa.
In 2012, Nandu took on the role of CEO at Ogilvy Africa to expand the brand across sub-Saharan Africa.
